For example, the 2020 BMW X4 comes standard with a panoramic moonroof that adds brightness to the interior of the SAV. The Porsche Macan only offers a moonroof as an available upgrade. You'll also get 19-inch wheels on the BMW X4, but only 18-inch wheels on the Macan. And when it comes to utility, the BMW X4 has almost a whole cubic foot more cargo space behind the second row of seating than the Porsche Macan. But it's not just interior technology where the BMW X4 excels. Its power-adjustable front seats offer greater directional control than those in the Porsche Macan, and they come with power seatback side bolster support and a driver's seat memory function (both available upgrades only in the Porsche). Even the audio system in the BMW X4 is more advanced; it has twelve speakers, while the standard system in the Porsche Macan has ten.

These two vehicles have remarkably similar performance. Both engines generate 248 horsepower. And, while the Porsche Macan has greater torque than the BMW X4, the Macan only accelerates from 0 to 60 mph 0.1 seconds faster than the BMW X4. Both vehicles even come standard with all-wheel drive for extra grip around corners. But the M Sport suspension in the BMW X4 is something that must be experienced to be believed. It complements the near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution to create a sporty, engaged driving feel.

When it comes to your safety, the BMW X4 is the superior choice. It comes standard with Active Guard, which includes frontal collision warning and Automatic City Collision Mitigation and Braking. This feature even includes Daytime Pedestrian Detection. While you'll find some standard driver assistance features in the Porsche Macan, automatic braking is not one of them. If you do get into an accident, the standard BMW Assist eCall™ in the X4 can call authorities with the SOS button. This feature is lacking in the Porsche Macan.
