2020 BMW 3 Series vs 2020 Audi A4 Comparison in Norwalk, CA

For seven generations, the BMW 3 Series has been a preeminent luxury small sports car. The 2020 model continues the tradition of the original 3 Series by driving forth with novel innovation, refined luxury, and stunning power. Though models like the Audi A4 may try to challenge it, BMW is in a class all its own. We invite you to look through this page, which goes into detail on some of the key differences between the BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4.

2020 BMW 3 Series vs 2020 Audi A4: Design

The distinctive kidney grille that marks BMW models has a certain je ne sais quoi. Perhaps it's because the kidney grille, in its many variations, has adorned BMW models since the 1930s. Maybe it's because the split-grille look is rarely seen in cars today. But whatever the reason, this striking grille immediately sets the BMW 3 Series apart. The Audi A4, on the other hand, comes with a grille that's more reminiscent of what you might find on brands like Toyota. Even little details like the Hofmeister kink make the BMW 3 Series look more refined and less like a standard sedan. These design features are complemented by features like larger wheels to create a more attractive car.

2020 BMW 3 Series vs 2020 Audi A4: Interior Features

One of the first things you'll notice if you compare the two interiors is that the BMW 3 Series gives passengers greater room. Front and rear headroom and front legroom are larger in the BMW 3 Series, of which Car and Driver writes that the "overall quality of the interior's design and assembly are also among the industry's best." The trunk in the BMW is also 17 cubic feet, while the Audi A4 has a mere 12-cubic-foot trunk. And when it comes to the front seats, BMW once again takes the lead. Its 14-way power front seats include a memory system. The 2020 Audi A4 has 8-way power front seats, with memory only available as an upgrade. Both sedans include advanced touchscreens that can also be controlled by way of a knob, as well as 10-speaker audio systems.

2020 BMW 3 Series vs 2020 Audi A4: Performance

At the entry level, it's no contest: the BMW 3 Series is the leader. The BMW 330i comes with a turbocharged engine that generates 255 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque! By contrast, the Audi A4 40 TFSI starts with an engine that puts out just 188 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. Outfitted with this engine, it takes the Audi A4 7.1 seconds to get from 0 to 60 mph. The BMW 3 Series gets the same acceleration in 5.6 seconds! The Audi A4 45 TFSI quattro does offer an upgraded engine as an option, but even this generates only 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. This means that the stronger engine upgrade is still not as powerful as the standard engine in the BMW 3 Series! The BMW 3 Series is more than just strong: Car and Driver says that the performance is "remarkably smooth."
