The 2020 BMW 2 Series is a perfect embodiment of this philosophy. On its own, it stands above the crowd of other small luxury cars, but its impressiveness really becomes evident when you compare it to a competitor like the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe. The Mercedes may have been redesigned for 2020, but it still lacks much of what makes the BMW 2 Series an effortless classic. 2020 BMW 2 Series vs 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe: Body Styles

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe is what Mercedes calls a "4-door coupe." This means that it has coupe-like styling, but also has four doors. For this body style, BMW uses the term "Gran Coupe," and it's one of the three designs in which the BMW 2 Series is available. If you prefer the traditional two-door Coupe arrangement, the BMW 2 Series Coupe is right up your alley. Or, experience the freedom that comes from the BMW 2 Series Convertible. You'll find that the Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe lacks these distinct body styles.

Though the level of choice that the BMW offers is certainly a benefit, it's far from the only one. Every 2020 BMW 2 Series comes equipped with features like LED fog lights, which are unavailable on the Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe. The design differences don't stop on the outside: step inside the BMW 2 Series and you'll be greeted by a driver-oriented cockpit complete with 10-way power front seats. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz, by comparison, comes with 8-way power front seats.

When you get behind the wheel and step on the accelerator, the differences between these two cars become even more apparent. The Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe comes standard with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that puts out 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, enabling it to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.3 seconds. We'll admit that the torque is impressive, and it's identical to the torque put out by the turbocharged engine in the BMW 2 Series. However, the 2 Series also generates 248 horsepower. With a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 5.3 seconds, the entry-level BMW 230i Coupe far outpaces the Mercedes-Benz. If you prefer the four-door body style, the BMW 228i xDrive Gran Coupe is still a little faster than the Mercedes-Benz, with a 0-60 mph acceleration of 6 seconds. But it's also equipped with xDrive all-wheel drive!

While we're on the topic of drivetrains, it's true that both the BMW 2 Series and the Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe offer all-wheel drive. However, the standard drivetrains of these vehicles are very different. In the BMW 2 Series, you'll get a sporty rear-wheel drive. This means that you'll get punchier acceleration and a lack of torque steer in the BMW 2 Series.

2020 BMW 2 Series vs 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe: Value

Not only does the BMW 2 Series provide you with more than the Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe, but it does it at a lower price. The starting MSRP of the 2020 BMW 2 Series Coupe is $1,350 less than that of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe.
